Samson Mow visits the Mexican Senate

As part of a larger trip meant to strengthen ties between JAN3 and Mexican politicians, our CEO Samson Mow appeared at Mexico’s Senado de la República, the national legislative body, to give a speech about Bitcoin’s importance for nation-states.

Samson’s visit to the senate took place on April 27th, 2023, when he met with Nuevo León Senator and vocal Bitcoiner Indira Kempis, a friend of JAN3, and Dante Delgado Rannauro the head of Kempis’ party, Movimiento Ciudadano. Not only that, Samson’s visit drew attention from other senators, such as Veracruz senator Ernesto Pérez Astorga, who also happens to be the Chairman of the Treasury Committee.

Of course, it was Samson’s public address that brought him to the Senate in the first place, and earlier in the day he shared high ideas about Bitcoin and how countries like Mexico stand to benefit from this revolutionary technology. In a short and concise speech, Samson outlined the main paths for countries to implement a proper Bitcoin strategy, with those mainly being:

  1. Adding Bitcoin to the national treasury to diversify a country’s reserve assets.
  2. The issuance of a Bitcoin Bond instrument, in parallel to mining operations funded by the bond themselves.
  3. Passing Bitcoin-friendly laws of any kind that allow for Bitcoin to be used as money in a frictionless matter.

During his address, Samson highlighted Senator Kempis’ own work to put together a Bitcoin Law in Mexico, after introducing a bill in late 2022 that sought to give it legal tender status in the country, despite it being ultimately unsuccessful.

This visit drew the attention of some of Mexico’s most prestigious outlets as well, with Samson being invited to talk about Bitcoin and nation-state adoption by the likes of Reuters and Milenio Televisión, while also sitting down with Revista Fortuna, a local business and finance magazine.

Lastly, Samson couldn’t pass up the opportunity to visit his good friend Ricardo Salinas Pliego, chairman of Grupo Salinas and one of Mexico’s richest individuals, who has become a vocal supporter of Bitcoin since 2020, having admitted to investing a significant amount of his fortune in this asset several times.
